get it shorty

Blouse: The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens \\ Shorts: Zara \\ Necklaces: J.Crew (on sale here) & Banana Republic (similar) \\ Bracelet: Kate Spade \\ Shoes: BCBG (similar) \\ Bag: LV \\ Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

I'm a big fan of shorts. (Remember these?) Paired with the right heels, shorts can ironically make a petite girl appear (or at least feel) just a little bit longer. I like to dress up my shorts with light blouses and bright jewelry - a very J.Crew inspired look.

How do you feel about shorts?

You Are Here

Graphic Tee: Skip N' Whistle (c/o) \\ Jeans: Just USA from Zina Boutique in DC (similar) \\ Blazer: Zara (similar) \\ Shoes: Zara (similar) \\ Bag: Chanel \\ Sunglasses: Karen Walker, Wizard

For the past few years I've avoided wearing t-shirts (note: I don't put baseball tees in the t-shirt category - see here, here, & here). In my mind, there was something juvenile/sloppy/grungy about them. I wouldn't even wear them to the gym (instead I wear these). Then suddenly, in the past couple of months, all I want to wear is t-shirts. I found that if I paired them with structured clothing like a blazer or a well tailored skirt, the outcome is something quite chic and extremely comfortable. The other important piece is the material - the softer and more vintage feeling the better. I'm especially loving graphic tees. They are a fun way express who you are or how you're feeling without verbally saying anything.

The tee I'm wearing is from Skip N' Whistle. It's my reminder to live in the moment and to realize how small my worries are in the grand scheme of the universe.

For other cool graphic tees check out Manifesto by Meg Biram and Sincerely Jules by Julie Sarinana.

bleu, blanc, rouge

I love all things new, whether it be new clothes, furniture, learning new things, wearing old clothes in a new way, traveling to new places...you get picture. I especially love trying new restaurants. My husband is the complete opposite. He loves going to the same place, getting to know the owners/bartenders by name, and making a place "his spot". So as a compromise, we try to do both. Last week was my turn so we had date night at a new french restaurant called Le Diplomate.

Le Diplomat is everything I imagine a restaurant in France is like. The exterior reminds me of the famous Pastis in NYC, and the indoor/outdoor patio reminds me of the scene from Renoir's painting Luncheon of the Boating Party (which I've seen in-person! at The Phillips Collection in DC, but I digress). The atmosphere is fabulous.

When I go out to eat, I like to order things that I probably wouldn't cook at home (again new food!). We started with the mushroom tart. Then for entrees I ordered the Rabbit en Giblotte special and my husband the Duck Breast and Leg Confit - both paired with the Newton Red Label Chardonnay. The mushroom tart and duck confit were magnifique, but the rabbit was too salty for me. Overall, it was a really romantic night. We definitely want to go back on a Tuesday for the Lobster Risotto special and to try some desserts.

Though, I do love a theme (remember my Lincoln Day?), I totally didn't plan to wear French colors, or coincidentally, a dress with pleated crepes. I wasn't even sure we would be able to get a table with no reservations. For walk-ins the wait that night was about an hour, but that gave us the perfect opportunity to walk down to Black Whiskey (another DC newbie) for cocktails. If you're in the area, I'd recommend checking out both places.

This date night look was inspired by the stunning Jane from Sea of Shoes. While I don't think I wear the look as well as Jane, I still felt tres chic! Also, these Anthropologie sunglasses are my new favorite shades. They're not a bad price either. Get them here.

Dress: Cut25 by Yigal Azrouel (also love this one) \\ Vest: Zara (similar) \\ Shoes: Zara, old (same pair by Vince here) \\ Bag: LV Speedy 25 \\ Sunglasses: Anthropologie \\ Watch: Michael Kors  \\ Lips: NARS Heat Wave

Do you love trying new restaurants, or do you have go-to spots? What are they and where? I'd love to know and maybe check them out!

weekend warrior

Last weekend I celebrated the birthday of my lovely friend Katya from SpicyCandyDC. We met up at Drybar in Georgetown for blowouts (I got the Southern Comfort) and mimosas. Then we continued our celebration with brunch at The Brixton and rooftop cocktails at Masa 14

Somewhere in between I snuck home to walk my sweet bully and take these pictures.
Here I attempt to channel Liu Wen

I found this top at the new Nordstrom Rack in downtown DC. I had been eyeing it for a while at a few other boutiques, but at 75% off it was hard to say no this time. It has been a nice transition piece for these warm but breezy spring days we've been experiencing here in DC.
Top: Free People via Nordstrom Rack, Skirt: Zara, Shoes: Emilio Pucci via Gilt (very similar here), Bag: Alexander McQueen, Sunglasses: Karen Walker Wizard, Nails: OPI Cajun Shrimp

On another note...Congrats to all the women who ran/completed the Nike Women's Half Marathon this weekend! I'm so inspired by all of you!

model Liu Wen

The New Icons, H&M's pre-summer collection inspired by supermodels launches today!
Liu Wen for H&M - The New Icons Collection (pic)
I have a major girl crush on one of the collection's four muses, Liu Wen from China.
If you're not familiar with the name Liu Wen but are thinking she looks familiar, you've most likely seen her in one of Zara's, J.Crew's, or most recently, Madewell's lookbooks. Add to that resume the current campaigns of Tiffany & Co. and Oscar de la Renta and you have one of the most sought after models in the industry.
